Spent some time a couple of weeks ago around the Guntersville area and the south side of the Guntersville TVA Dam to hopefully spot and photograph some of the local eagles. That did not happen, but in one of the coves on the lake I did find a flock of Coots and mixed amongst them, Ring-necked Ducks. Their piercing straw colored eyes surrounded by green to purplish head feathers are incredible to see. In the picture above you can see the ring around the base of the neck as well as the distinctive markings on the beak. This particular drake had just surfaced after scouring for weeds in the bay.
